PROGRAMS

Our Programs

STEM Incubators run a wide variety of programs within the community with a main focus of generating curiosity and helping students understand how to work as a team to tackle relavent issues in today's society. We aim to share knowledge and spread awareness of problems relevant to future generations.

FIRST Lego League

(Annual Program)

For two consecutive years, Stem Incubators has been participating in FIRST Lego League, a competition in which teams code a robot to complete tasks on a map, with set missions for the robot to complete. During the first year, 2021/2022 we achieved a judges' award for "gracious professionalism," which is one of the core values of FIRST Lego League. However, unfortunately, we were not able to do as well as in the 2022/2023 round where we tied for second place with points. However, we were not able to make it through to the next round.

Active Citizenship Program

(Mid-2024)

In addressing the major challenges within our communities, whether education or innovation, we recognise that compelling Involvement right from a young age is paramount. The 'Future Community Leaders program’ empowers young minds to comprehend the democratic process, enabling them to choose candidates wisely, drive meaningful debates, and influence policymaking. The program's first phase will be Active Citizenship coaching with a focus on cultivating political literacy and fostering an understanding of active citizenship among young Australians. All applicants will undergo a formal interview process.

Online Selective Entrance Exam Coaching

(Annual Program)

Stem Incubators is running an ongoing weekly program in order to help our students in the Victorian Selective School Entrance Exams starting in 2022. Our first year was extremely successful with a 71% success rate of success for their students. This was achieved through weekly classes and multiple efforts from students and teachers.

IBM AI Project

(Complete)

The IBM AI Project was a competition where a team of four students from the STEM Incubators team were challenged to develop a solution to a real-world problem with Artificial intelligence and Machine Learning. Stem Incubators were successful in obtaining second place with seven months of hard work from our students and mentors. This project was the stepping stone and basis for the Kingston Sustainability Program.

The Kingston Sustainability Project

(Complete)

Stem Incubators is running an ongoing program alongside Kingston City Council, as a continuation of the IBM AI project. The outcome is to produce an app that helps track the best-before-date on grocery items, in an attempt to reduce food waste. The main components that the participants focus on are: marketing, designing the user interface, and coding the AI modules for the application. We aim to roll this out by early 2023 to the general public. Additionally, a few participants went to a primary school in Casey, to explain the journey and purpose of the application.
